As a San Francisco and Marin County chiropractor who treats back pain on a daily basis, I’m often asked questions like these:
- What are the most common symptoms of back pain among your San Francisco and Marin County patients?
- What causes back pain?
- Why do I suddenly have pain when I never had pain before?
- Why does my neck or arm hurt when I wake up?
- Are my high heels causing my lower back pain?
I can tell you that there are a variety of causes of back pain. And I can also tell you that up to 85% of adults will experience lower back pain at some time in their lives. The symptoms of back pain I see in my San Francisco and Marin County office include:
- Aching or stiffness from your neck to your tailbone.
- Sharp, localized pain.
- Chronic, aching pain from your middle to lower back.
- Pain radiating from your lower back to your buttocks, thighs or calf and toes.
- An injury, which suddenly bends or twists your back into an uncomfortable condition.
- A car accident, resulting in a “whiplash” or lower back strain.
- Too much exercise without proper stretching or too infrequently.
- Too much weight on the upper body, which puts too much strain on the lower back.
- Not wearing the proper shoes when running or hiking.
- Degenerative disc disease, in which the cushioning of your discs gradually wears away or shrinks.
- Bulging discs, which can be caused by a vertebrae out of alignment.
- Herniated discs, which can put pressure on the nerve that extends down your spinal column and causes sciatica.
If you live in San Francisco or Marin County and have ANY of these symptoms of back pain, you should schedule a consultation with me.
