Pelvic pain (Pubic Symphysis Pain Syndrome) is something they are told they will have to live with by their physician. A Chiropractor is trained to evaluate the cause and deliver care to relieve it that is gentle and safe. If the cause in the pelvis is biomechanical, structural, or an alignment issue, then Chiropractic is a good choice for correction.

Soft tissue work and gentle adjustments with a spring loaded tool often are very helpful in re-aligning the area. There are specific instructions that teach you how to avoid more pain by correct positioning of the body and exercises to avoid. These often involve avoiding one legged movements such as getting in and out of bed, and cars.

Still, after realigning the area there may be still discomfort in the area or low back due to hormone levels. Sometimes Relaxin, the hormone that allows the ligaments to soften and relax during pregnancy will have more circulation on one side of the body than the other. This also can be a reason for pubic pain. The pubic bone has complex attachments. Very often the vulva has hypertonic tissue around it. If external soft tissue work and alignments have not been effective, an internal release will be. This can be done by the woman and her partner or by the doctor.

Breath work and focused energy in the area have been found to be helpful during the internal release. It is similar to craniosacral therapy and it is done just around the pubic bone. An excellent article about Pubic Symphysis Pain Syndrome was published in Pathways Magazine issue #16 by Pamela Vireday on Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction.
